Manchester United vs Inter Milan is expected to be a clash of the titans. They are both league-leaders in their own countries and of equally team strength. Both have very colorful managers – tough, accomplished, competitive and proud. It’s difficult to have an accurate prediction of the results.

I like Jose Mourinho and I have great respect for Sir Alex Ferguson. If not for the Inter coach, I would have been biased in favor of the defending champion, which I think has the edge in terms of field players. Think of Ronaldo and Rooney. Add to that, Rio Ferdinand and a cast of other role players.
And who’s who at Inter? There’s the Portugal legend Luis Figo; then the Brazilian international, Adriano; the famous striker from Sweden, Zlatan Ibrahimovic; and the former Arsenal stalwart and French international, Patrick Vierra. And I do think that the manager, Jose Mourinho, will play a big factor for team.
First Leg
The two will clash at the San Siro on February 24, 2009. This will be for the first leg of the battle of the last 16. With the Milan fans cheering for their club, I expect a tougher fight. Everyone knows the home crowd factor. Even giants are slain in the land of midgets.
My Prediction: 1-0 Inter wins (Actual results is a 0-0 stalemate despite United’s brutal attack)
Second Leg
Inter will travel to Old Trafford and will experience first hand the rabid fans of the world’s wealthiest club. This will be an opportunity for Mourinho to put a finger on his lips again. (Remember how he did it in Barcelona?) To face Manchester is his dream, and to beat Sir Alex at his own yard would be like winning the Champion’s League.
But the youthful side of ManU will dominate the ageing squad from Italy. Ronaldo will fool the defenders from end to end, and stretch the goalie to his limits. Rooney will trample all opposition. I will see red everywhere.
My Prediction: ManU wins 2-0. They will move to the Finals of the UEFA 2008-2009 Champions’ League.
Actual results: I got my prediction right on target. Manchester United won 2-0 on a Vidic and Ronaldo goals.
