Manchester United vs Liverpool: Premiership March 14 Showdown

Manchester United vs Liverpool is a must-see clash at the Premier League. The two will battle it out at Old Trafford this March 14, 2009. This is crucial for both. Liverpool is in their chase for the Premiership title which they have not tasted for a long while. On the other hand, a win by the Red Devils will solidify their hold of the top spot, and a three-peat of the title. (Actual results at the bottom)

Manchester United is on top right now at 62 points, and 7 points away from Chelsea and Liverpool. They recently won the League cup, the first of their silverware this season. They are also enjoying a home crowd advantage in the March 14 duel. Their main players are fit. Ronaldo, Rooney, Berbatov and the others are fueled up to take any challenge on their way. They have already conquered Chelsea by a wide 3-0 margin the last time they met at Old Trafford. And Liverpool could be another easy prey.

Liverpool is chasing for a title they have not won since 1990. Their Premiership standing had been just within the top four in recent years. Though they showed excellent form in Europe, they have not shown the same locally. They won 2-1 over ManU at Anfield in September. But for the March 14 clash, their main weapon in Fernando Torres is in doubt. He had a recurring injury that sidelined him in most of the matches this season. Steven Gerrard is also not 100% fit. Though listed in the clash against Real Madrid, he just warmed up the bench. Rafael Benitez’ team is also very inconsistent in the domestic league. They should have a way to turn around their misfortunes. A win against Manchester United at Old Trafford will be a good start for that.

Manchester United vs Liverpool Match Results Prediction

Liverpool will suffer the same fate as that of Chelsea at Old Trafford. Manchester United will beat Liverpool 3-0 come March 14. However, if the two would meet in Europe, I’d expect a draw, with a shootout determining the winner. Liverpool’s performance in Europe is a puzzle to me.

Actual Results:

Fresh from a 5-1 trashing of Real Madrid, Liverpool found its soul and demolished Manchester United on their own stronghold at Old Trafford. Even if Ronaldo scored the first goal in the 23rd minute, Torres quickly answered in the 28th. Then Gerrard put in through a penalty. Two other Reds contributed to the massacre. Of the seventeen shots of ManU, only one went through. Liverpool got a more precise aim, with 4 out of nine.

The gap is now at 4 points, and this is one thing that should make the Red Devils shudder. Liverpool had beaten them twice already this year.
