Juan Manuel Lopez vs Gerry Peñalosa Fight Results Prediction
Posted by cebloggerMar 30
It’s Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez vs Gerry Peñalosa on April 25 for the Junior Featherweight Division in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Though I hate to admit it, as I am a Peñalosa fan too, my fight results prediction favors the younger champion: TKO in the middle rounds. I wonder where can we find free online video streaming for this fight.
Juanma Lopez, the 122-lbs title holder from Puerto Rico, has an impressive record of 24-0 and 22 of them via KO. His last fight was a joke against a Argentinian champion turned coward, Sergio Medina. It was really a very short fight and the opponent threw only some soft and ineffective punches. Perhaps his rise to glory was his impressive first round victory over Daniel Ponce De Leon, in June 7, 2008, for the WBO super bantamweight belt. To knock out a champion in the first round is something to be feared.
De Leon, on the other hand, had defeated Peñalosa in a disputed unanimous decision in their bout last March 2007.
Gerry Penalosa, according to boxing analysts, is the best technical boxer that ever came from the Philippines. At 36, with a 54-6-2 record (36 via KO), Gerry is still a force to reckon with. In his career, he won the WBC super flyweight and the WBO super bantamweight titles. His counter punching style is best shown in his fight against De Leon. Though the defeat was a close one, it displayed Gerry’s tremendous boxing intelligence.
Now against Juanma, can boxing intelligence stop a raging fist? Nobody had knocked out Gerry yet, and Juanma can send him to a second retirement in the middle rounds. If the fight is to the finish, Gerry would smile in the end and will carry his third division title. And I’d like to see that.
UPDATE on Juanma Lopez vs Gerry Peñalosa
Gerry lost on this obviously lopsided match. Roach urged him to retire in the beginning of the tenth round. Though it was a valiant stand for Gerry, Juanma’s power and stamina dominated from the beginning and lasted till the later rounds. There was no way the Filipino could get back. Juan Manuel Lopez wins! Congratulations!

at last, this dream fight of gerry is going to happen. but i think gerry will really have a hard time on this one. i see that he is on the side of the one who has lots to do and prove; age, record, performance last outing? hmmm
hopefully gerry will emerge victorious so as for him to have a last fight with a star on his chest before he retires.
elmot :”but i think gerry will really have a hard time on this one. i see that he is on the side of the one who has lots to do and prove; age, record, performance last outing? hmmm”
you are wrong elmot. at his age with his record, gerry has already done a lot for the sport, and after coming back out from retirement, he also had proven that he still has what it takes to be a champion.
so why did he challenge juanma lopez who is, judging from his previous fights and his record, a much harder/explosive puncher than him? it’s because with all his achievements, he never had the popularity comparable to pacquiao’s…and it’s because of his style. most people prefer the brawler type than the technical boxers. but now, with this fight, not only can gerry get another title, he can also be as popular as pacquiao and show the world that boxing is not only for the heavy fists..its also for the thick brains.
anyways, with all credits to gerry, i still see this fight very risky for him. i think one lucky punch of juanma will decide the game. (i called it “lucky” because gerry is very good at evading and blocking punches, it will take really good luck to hit him clean) but in case it never came, gerry then would have the score card. can’t wait to see this fight!~

all i can say for now: “Go, Gerry! Go, fight till the finish!”
I had predicted Gerry will lose this fight; it became true. Except for one thing: I predicted the fight would go the distance and would have Gerry losing on a decision.
I’m afraid Gerry’s time has come to an end. Indeed, he is a true champion and the best tactical/technical boxer Philippines has ever produced. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the chance to scale the heights of popularity that Manny Pacquiao’s enjoying these days. The fight was a chance. But it came too late.
Gerry needs to hung up his gloves now.
