It’s Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez vs Gerry Peñalosa on April 25 for the Junior Featherweight Division in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Though I hate to admit it, as I am a Peñalosa fan too, my fight results prediction favors the younger champion: TKO in the middle rounds. I wonder where can we find free online video streaming for this fight.

Juanma Lopez, the 122-lbs title holder from Puerto Rico, has an impressive record of 24-0 and 22 of them via KO. His last fight was a joke against a Argentinian champion turned coward, Sergio Medina. It was really a very short fight and the opponent threw only some soft and ineffective punches. Perhaps his rise to glory was his impressive first round victory over Daniel Ponce De Leon, in June 7, 2008, for the WBO super bantamweight belt. To knock out a champion in the first round is something to be feared.

De Leon, on the other hand, had defeated Peñalosa in a disputed unanimous decision in their bout last March 2007.

Gerry Penalosa, according to boxing analysts, is the best technical boxer that ever came from the Philippines. At 36, with a 54-6-2 record (36 via KO), Gerry is still a force to reckon with. In his career, he won the WBC super flyweight and the WBO super bantamweight titles. His counter punching style is best shown in his fight against De Leon. Though the defeat was a close one, it displayed Gerry’s tremendous boxing intelligence.

Now against Juanma, can boxing intelligence stop a raging fist? Nobody had knocked out Gerry yet, and Juanma can send him to a second retirement in the middle rounds. If the fight is to the finish, Gerry would smile in the end and will carry his third division title. And I’d like to see that.

UPDATE on Juanma Lopez vs Gerry Peñalosa

Gerry lost on this obviously lopsided match. Roach urged him to retire in the beginning of the tenth round. Though it was a valiant stand for Gerry, Juanma’s power and stamina dominated from the beginning and lasted till the later rounds. There was no way the Filipino could get back. Juan Manuel Lopez wins! Congratulations!
