Today, May 11, 2009 is Manny Pacquiao Day! President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has proclaimed May 11 as a special National Day of Celebration in honor of Pacquiao, the Pambansang Kamao (National Fist).

Some people were actually waiting for a non-working Holiday proclamation. But why didn’t the powers in the Palace declared that? That would have been a plus to the holiday-loving masses.

Manny Pacquiao was named Ambassador for peace and understanding by President Arroyo. Then our beloved Justice Secretary appointed him as “special assistant to the secretary of the Department of Justice on intelligence matters”.

“In the interest of public service and with the provision of existing law, Master Sergeant Emmanuel Pacquiao has been hereby designated as special assistant to the secretary of the Department of Justice in intelligence matters,” the Department Order 344 said, as quoted from the PDI. See article here.

Why Master Sergeant only and not a General? Can’t they do that? It would be more appropriate and befitting our National Fist. “General Manny Pacquiao KOs Floyd Mayweather Jr.” I would love to read that in the headlines.
