Barcelona vs Manchester United: Champions’ League Finals Results Predictions

Manchester United vs Barcelona 2011 UEFA Champions League Finals

Barcelona vs Manchester United will be another epic Championship clash between two giant clubs. Predictions, predictions! May 27, 2009 is the date to watch out for. Both are current league-leaders in their own countries and of similar team strength. Both have rabid fans who are willing to die for their teams. Both are previous Champions, with Barca in 2006 and ManU as the current holder. But somehow, only one will come out as the 2009 winner. My results prediction is that the game would be decided by a shootout, 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

I will not be referring to their managers in building up my predictions. I presume that Sir Alex is not better than Pep Guardiola. At this level of competition, it will be the players that will matter most.

The Barcelona attack will be led by Messi, Henry and Eto’o. Of course there are role players that matter. Fluid and beautiful football are what we are to expect for this match. Surely the fans will miss Ronaldinho and how his mastery of the game gave the Catalan squad the crown in 2006. But I believe that this current team is much better than the 2008 team which lost to the Red Devils in the semifinals last year.

Though I still grieve for Chelsea’s loss in the semis, Barcelona’s win was no fluke. They deserve to be in the finals. Someone even predicted that they’d humiliate Manchester United in the finals, scoring here and there like madmen, rattling the defense like a hurricane. Well, that is still possible, Barca fan. But the reality is, ManU has the ability to spoil the attack.

The Manchester United team will be again led by Ronaldo, this year’s Best Soccer Player. I know that Rooney and Berbatov are raring to show their wares at this level, and they are potent scorers too. The defense of the Red Devils is as solid as a steel wall and it will be difficult even for an attacking team like Barcelona to penetrate it. ManU fans will be quick to predict a manhandling of Barca at the finals. But this is not close to the truth. Barca, as shown in its recent win over Chelsea, has the capability of turning things their way.

Fluid and exciting football, I repeat the emphasis here in the Manchester United vs Barcelona UEFA Finals clash. It would really be a joy to watch these two teams fight for the trophy. But my prediction is for the title holder to retain the trophy, 1-1 at regulation, and the Red Devils winning it at 4-3 in the shootout. Edwin Van der Sar will be the man of the match.

Barcelona vs Manchester United Results Update:

Barca wins 2-0 with goals from Eto’o and Messi.  This is the end of ManU’s dreams. Congratulations, Barcelona!

  3. I truly believe that this is the year of Barcelona. The Spanish have been playing great all season, and I can see them winning the final 2-1, with Lionel Messi scoring both goals.

the jist of it is this; whether anyone wants to admit it or not…the passing game of Barcelona frustrates all the other teams and results in a lack of concentration and stupid mistakes…manutd need berbatov scholes and giggs to run the midfield for the first 45 minutes.

Manchester United play in a very physical competitive league where they’re going to have 4 other worthy title challengers whereas Barcelona play in a one-horse league, because Real Madrid are a level below them in the league. Clearly, Utd are the superior team and they should have no trouble disposing off Barcelona. The only thing Utd must take into account is the diving and theatrical abilities of Dani Alves, Pedro, Busquets, Villa, and Iniesta. and they shouldn’t get reduced to 10 men. Otherwise, they’re finished. If Madrid had played more ball possession game and tried to deny Barca the ball, they could’ve neutralized Barca’s pansy style of fitba.
