Badminton And The CPA Board Exam
Posted by cebloggerMay 18
I remember full well the days leading to the CPA board exam 14 years ago. My schedule was so tight at study that I did not have any more time for myself. Accounting subjects here, accounting subjects there.
But there was one activity that I could not resist: Badminton on Saturday mornings. Those days were supposed to be the schedule of our Law review but I exchanged that for sweat at the badminton court. “I can read the law books later” I said to myself. Sweat now, study later.
It was fun. My shirt was wet everytime I entered the review with only a few minutes to go before break time. And I really felt good, even bragging to reviewmates that I still have time for badminton.
Examination days came and I felt relaxed. I was confident of hurdling the first subjects on the first three days of the exam. Law and taxation was scheduled on the last day. Remember, I exchanged badminton for the Law review. I was so nervous when I read the test questionnaires. A lot of the questions were discussed during that time when I skipped the review. “Oh boy! I am doomed” I said with both my palms in my forehead. Regrets, regrets, regrets. I just closed my eyes and uttered a prayer. I asked for forgiveness; for skipping the review and for playing badminton instead.
When the CPA board exam results were released a few days later, I felt relieved when I saw my name in the list. “Thank you, LORD” I shouted with glee.
Lessons learned? Don’t let sports addiction waylaid you in your studies. Time management is very important. Keep your focus.

Wow, this is nice. Business and pleasure event huh?
snow, if uso na blogging at that time, the title of this post would have been different. LOL!
Nice story. Building up conflict, heightening readers’ interest, then – kazaam – punchy ending. I like!
Very effective way to make a point. You’re doing great. “,)
There must something in physical exertions that relaxes the brain and makes it run at full throttle – hahaha parang boat or car ano? But that’s true, if don’t give your brain a rest, it just might disappoint you.
Although, of course me being me, I’d take a more laid back approach to a daunting challenge like a law review. I’d lay myself on the bed and relax and sleep over the tension. Ahahaha.
Love this, Novz!
badminton is a great tension reliever, jan. ask Doc Z about it. btw, i’m raring to see the good doc in court. we just couldn’t find the right sched.
i agree that badminton is a good way to relieve tension and also to reduce weight haha…i just started playing this sport a year ago..i was only encourage upon seeing that my officemates are competing in our annual sportsfest(by that time my participation was on chess). I just tried to play it and with only a couple of hits, i was sweating already… Then i decided to play once a week, then 2x a week, then 3x a week currently. On weekends, we play all day. from 8am to 4pm sometimes 6pm. And guess what…my weight and waist line before i started playing badminton was 73kg and 36″…now…62KG and 31″ waistline… super grabe that all my officemates are amazed at my condition now. I have even surpassed all of them in badminton skill..hehehe… A very good sport.. NOw i cannot live without playing it….
thanks for dropping by neavalmi! badminton is really a good way to relieve tension. but to lose weight? haha, not me. bulalo kasi kami after the games.
Good to learn about these happenings…Badminton is a lovely game and not too difficult to understand and play for the not so adept sports people here.
