Kaka, the 27-year old 2007 Ballon D’Or and FIFA World Player of the year from Brazil, is now a Real Madrid player. The speculations are now over though everybody thought that this transfer was imminent.
If reports suggesting that the transfer fee is around £58.9m are accurate, the deal surpasses the previous world record of £47m set by Real in 2001 when they bought Zinedine Zidane from Juventus. The deal was actually far less than what Manchester City offered for the AC Milan playmaker. But Kaka had many other considerations besides the money.
Both Real Madrid and AC Milan confirmed the transfer deals in their websites. The deal will tie the player for six years. This is another mega deal by the newly re-elected Real President Florentino Perez. In Perez’s previous stint with the club, he oversaw the acquisitions of international stars in Ronaldo (£23.2m), David Beckham (£24.5m), Luis Figo (£37m), and Zidane (£47m). There are other targets too aside from Kaka, as the Spanish Club is set to embark another era of greatness both in their local league and in Europe.
Barcelona has been dominant in Spain and Europe in the last five years. The Galacticos’ stars are aging and hasn’t been a real threat outside the La Liga. They need new blood to reinforce the veteran Raul and Casillas. We, therefore expect a new Real Madrid next season.
Can Manchester United fans take a breather now for their Ronaldo? Not really. But honestly, it is not good to see the world’s best football players in one team.
