We all know that Pacquiao will fight this year. But who is the opponent? The boxing scribes put up various scenarios and some even ranked them according to the risks and probabilities. My version of the scenarios here is solely based on my readings and of course, my imagination.

Pacquiao vs Cotto – They say that this is the easiest thing to do for the promoter because the two fighters are under Top Rank. At what weight? At what prize? Miguel Cotto is a Puerto Rican, right? Isn’t history been so unkind to Filipinos fighting Puerto Ricans? Look at the recent Juanma – Gerry fight. Or even the legendary Flash Elorde.

WBO Welterweight Champion Cotto will have to dispose of Joshua Clottey first this weekend. If he comes out victorious, then he’ll be the most probable opponent. Money-wise, it can still draw a following.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather Jr. – I’d like to see this happen. The loud-mouthed Money Mayweather Jr. has to be silenced. He’s undefeated alright. But he has not yet fought the best there is. If Marquez won’t beat him, then Pacquiao will dismantle him to pieces.

Mayweather’s 10 round victory over Hatton and split victory over De La Hoya were not that convincing compared to what the Filipino champ did. Oh, boy! And they guy is already talking of a bigger share of the pie if ever he fight the Pacman. He should be ashamed of himself.

Pacquiao vs Marquez Part 3 – If Marquez wins against Mayweather, is it an automatic shot for a Pacquiao rematch? Others say so. But if I were in Team Pacquiao, I’d let both fight at 135lbs, and their belts at stake. As for the money share, 35% for JMM would be fair enough. Nah, with the way Manny is fighting right now, I think JMM will not last beyond the first round.

Pacquiao vs Mosley – I’d say that Shane Mosley is the most dangerous of them all. I think Pacquiao’s team should not even consider him in their short list of possible opponents.

Pacquiao vs Tyson – What can you say? I’m sure Tyson would be willing to fight the Pacman. Where was that news I read last year wherein he was even willing to fight a woman just for the heck of earning bucks. Oh well, desperation! But I’d suggest the two pick up cue sticks and play billiards instead. A boxing fight, even it would just be an exhibition, is totally crazy. By the way, my congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Mike Tyson. I heard they tied the knot a few days ago.
