Liverpool vs Lyon, round 3 of the Champion’s League 2009/2010 group stages, October 20, 2009. The venue is at Anfield. This is an exciting match to watch in Group E as it features the best club of France against one of the best in the Premiership. What is your match results prediction on this one?
Liverpool
What is Liverpool without Steven Gerrard? Or even without the prolific striker, Fernando Torres? The loss against Fiorentina last month, and most recently the humiliation inflicted by Sunderland, what can you expect this time around for the Reds? They are currently on third place at the group stages. They have to catch up so that they can qualify into the next round.
And the good news tonight is that – Gerrard is fit to play. The Reds really need a boost from their charismatic captain. They need to beat Lyon to stay in contention. Exiting at the early stage will most probably be a signal for Benitez to leave the club. It seems that Liverpool has never been in a consistent fighting form in the last few years.
Lyon
Lyon currently sits atop Group E, and is three points clear off Fiorentina and Liverpool. No ball had entered their goal yet and it seems that they will move on to the next round even if Liverpool beats them twice. The Ligue 1 leader and Champion since 2002, is always a regular at Champion’s League lately. But it has not win won the trophy.
My results prediction
Even if I favor the Reds to win, I don’t really see them winning this time without Fernando Torres. Gerrard may be fit, but not really 100%. Lyon will play hard and will guard their goal like they are guarding their lives. My prediction: 0-0. This is crisis for Benitez.

Lyon 2 Liverpool 1 – Reds were shamed at Anfield. Gerrard was only good for 25 minutes before another injury sets in.
