Will there be any Good Friday sports or football match you can watch somewhere? Not in my place of the world. Most, if not all, are on Lenten breaks. No badminton, no basketball, and certainly no football. There will be no sports on TV that day. (I’m not sure with cable though)
But hey, in Australia, there were plans to put football in the calendar for a Good Friday match. These made lots of Christian churches fuming mad. According to reports, Catholic spokesman Bishop Christopher Prowse said: “Good Friday is a day like no other for the vast majority of Victorians who are Christians and even for those who are not. It’s a time to reflect on deeper issues and on our ultimate destiny. Sport should serve humanity and society, not the other way around. This is making sport itself into a religion.”
West Ham striker Carlton Cole has admitted to a charge by the Football Association of improper conduct in relation to a comment he made on Twitter during the England-Ghana friendly at Wembley.
“Immigration has surrounded the Wembley premises! I knew it was a trap! Hahahaha. The only way to get out safely is to wear an England jersey and paint your face w/ the St. George’s flag!” his tweet says.
Realising that his initial comments were considered offensive by many, Cole tweeted, “To my ghanian brothers dont take it so seriously, its just jokes! Youve played well! Done africa proud!”
A Chelsea vs Manchester United encounter will never fail to excite the football world. On April 12, 2011, they will meet again at the Old Trafford for the leg 2 of their 2011 Champions League quarterfinals match. The Red Devils has a goal advantage courtesy of Wayne Rooney’s first half goal during the first leg. It will now be a do-or-die game for the Blues as they chase for their first ever European title.
The Morales vs Maidana boxing fight results is out. Erik Morales fought his best but it was not enough as the judges scored a majority decision victory for Marcos Maidana. One judge drew it at 114-114, while two other judges scored it at 116-112.
The picture above showed Morales’ swollen right eye. Maidana (30-2 27KOs) inflicted the damage in the first round.
Some observers thought that El Terible Morales (51-7 35KOs) could have won the fight as he gallantly stood before the raging Argentine, and had connected punches midway and towards the end of the fight. The later rounds showed that Maidana lost steam, but he had conserved enough strength to survive the last round and put the decision on the judges table.
Despite the loss, Morales is still one hell of a fighter, as he displayed tremendous boxing skills despite the odds and being the underdog going into this fight.
Fight Camp 360º Pacquiao vs Mosley is Showtime’s presentation inside the lives, outside the ring of two of the world’s top boxers today as they make preparations for their WBO Welterweight match this coming May 7, 2011 at Las Vegas Nevada.
Here’s the CBS trailer of this four-part documentary:
The news that Jose Mourinho has lost a home game is louder than Real Madrid’s loss against Sporting Gijon. On Mourinho’s 151st home game since his time at Porto in February 23, 2002, an opposing player break free near the end of the game to fire the winning shot.
Miguel de la Cuevas, a former Atletico Madrid player, broke the hearts of Mourinho’s fans. In the 79th minute, he broke free and fired in right footed shot off the post. It also meant a dimmer hope for the title as Barcelona will be 8 points ahead.
Jose Mourinho’s winning streak followed him from Porto to Chelsea, then to Inter, and now at Real Madrid. There were close games, even near defeats. But somehow, he was able to salvage at least a draw, even with a man lacking. Mourinho, in the past, insisted that he is not playing for the records but for the points.
But this is not really a good time to lose a home game. Much less end a record that is far to beat by any manager at this time. Tottenham’s confidence must have been raised by now ahead of their quarterfinals clash this Tuesday. Real Madrid’s top players, Ronaldo and Benzema, are still out due to injury.
