Philippine Azkals vs LA Galaxy

The Philippine Azkals will play against LA Galaxy this coming December 3, 2011 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Though this is just an exhibition game expected to boost football in the country and promote further LA Galaxy in Asia, fans are eagerly hoping for a positive result for the Pinoy booters.

LA Galaxy is the reigning MLS Champion. They have superstar players like Davd Beckham, Robbie Keanne, Juninho and Landon Donovan. Of course their coach, Bruce Arena, is popular too and is even considered by many as the most successful coach in North American soccer.

Ticket prices for this game are P15k, P10k and P2k. Quite expensive, eh! But I am sure that a lot will be willing to empty their bank accounts just to watch this once in a lifetime event. According to reports, the United Football League (UFL) is also giving UFL fans a 35% discount on all tickets. The discount is not available though when buying online.

Diehard fans with extra bucks can also watch the LA Galaxy’s practice session on Friday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Ticket prices range from P1500 to P3000.

David Beckham and his LA Galaxy are currently in Jakarta for a 3-day tour. Last night they blanked a selection of Indonesian footballers 1-0 through a Robbie Keane goal at the 14th minute.

For this Saturday’s game, the visiting team maybe tired but the Azkals will also be without key players Neil Etheridge and Roland Mueller, who are unavailable due to commitment with their clubs in Europe.

A 1-0 win for LA Galaxy will be comforting already. But honestly, I want David Beckham score 5 goals including one from the other half of the field, just like what he did when he was young and skinny in his early ManU days.

The Philippine Azkals will meet the Singapore Lions in a football game tonight October 7, 2011, at the 6,000-capacity Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore. Even though this is just one of those friendlies, Philippine fans are eager to know the results of this game. Philippine Azkals vs Singapore Lions – who will roar loudest, or who will wag its tail in defeat?

A friend already posted in her Facebok page that she is now on her way to the stadium to watch the game live. She was already wearing blue with the Philippine map stitched on the left breast portion. Expected to cheer for the Azkals are plenty of Singapore-based countrymen.

Preview and Results Prediction

Because of their rank at no. 166, the Azkals are the underdogs here against their 136th ranked Southeast Asian neighbor. The last time they met, the PH booters managed a 1-1 draw in the group stage of the AFF Suzuki up in December 2010.

Tonight they will meet again with a new coach and several new players on the PH side. German Coach Michael Weiss will field one of the strongest sides ever assembled for an international match in recent memory. The team is bidding to improve their teamwork and cohesion for major tournaments ahead of them.

With too many talented players at his disposal, Coach Weiss is expected to go all out with his attack. Strikers Phil Younghusband and Fil-Spanish Angel Guirado will be the likely players at front and complemented with attacking midfielders and the fiery Chieffy Caligdong.

The Singapore Lions, on the other hand, is not taking this encounter lightly. They will field an A team that will make this game as a tune-up for their third round Asian World Cup qualifying game against Jordan.

The Philippines will make every attempt to score, but so does the Singaporeans, who are equally sharp and talented. I will not be sad if the Azkals draw the Lions. My prediction – 2-2, with goals coming from Guirado and Caligdong.

Actual Results (Update)

The first half ended with both sides failing to score. However, in the 50-th minute, Shaiful Esah of Singapore gave the Lions a 1-0 lead through a deflected long-range strike. Veteran striker Aleksandar Duric, doubled Singapore’s lead in a counterattack goal in the 64th minute.

The Azkals had several chances to score in the first half. Chieffy Caligdong’s goal in the 13th minute was disallowed for offside, while Phil Younghusband’s free kick missed the goal by a few inches. Almost, but not quite lucky.

UFC’s Tito Ortiz Arrested, Domestic Violence Charge

Tito Ortiz, the ex-Light Heavyweight Champ of UFC, was arrested on Monday on charges of domestic violence by beating up his girlfriend and mother of his two kids, adult film star Jenna Jameson. The arrest was made at the Huntington Beach home where the couple lived.

The two began dating in 2006 after they purportedly met on the social networking site, Myspace. Later that year, in an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Ortiz stated that he is in love with Jameson, that she is no longer acting in adult films, and that they are in a monogamous relationship. In March 2009, Jameson gave birth to twin boys.

It was reported that someone called up 911 because of some disturbance. When cops arrived, they found Jameson with some visible injuries.

Later after the arrest, Jameson also addressed her fans via Twitter, telling then that she can’t anymore take any abuse from anyone and that she’ll quit Twitter.

Edwin Valero Killed His Wife?

The Venezuelan boxing icon and “Champion in recess” of WBC Lightweight, Edwin Valero, is suspected of killing his wife, Jennifer Carolina Viera de Valero. His two children will now be without a mother.

But according to reports from Reuters, the attorney-general’s office said in a statement that Valero, 28, confessed to murdering Jennifer Carolina Viera de Valero, 24, overnight at the InterContinental hotel in Valencia. “Valero went down to a hotel reception and confessed to the employees that he had carried out the murder,” the statement added.

The statement also said Valero would be charged with the murder. Mrs. Valero died of stab wounds.

Edwin Valero is very dangerous in the ring. He is a brutal and tough fighter who knocked out all of his opponents. He also drew some fans to his corner because of his unblemished record of 27-0, all of them by knockout, and 19 of them were disposed of in the first round. (Hear that Floyd Mayweather Jr.). But he is also dangerous outside the ring. A few weeks ago, he was accused of battering his wife. He denied any wrongdoing, and his wife told authorities that the bruises she had were caused by an accident. Last year, he was also reported of battering his mother and sister. Who in his right mind would abuse women? Much more if it’s the wife, mother or sister. His mother cleared him. Albeit a temporary relief for Valero!

What a waste really! He was even groomed to fight against Manny Pacquiao and other big names in boxing in the near future. But that will not materialize anymore. No more big fights, no more shot at Manny or Mayweather. He will rot in jail for the murder, or in some psychiatric facilities. He’s not really in his right mind anymore.

Update:

After Edwin Valero killed his wife, he committed suicide by hanging himself using his own clothes at his jail cell.

Shaun White Wins Olympic Gold in Snowboarding Halfpipe

Shaun White wins his second Olympic gold in halfpipe today at Cypress Mountain for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He holds the record for the highest score in the men’s halfpipe at the Winter Olympics. In 2006, his 46.8 points surpassed previous record of 46.1 set by Ross Powers from 2002. In 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, he improved further his very own record with 48.4 points in his second run.

There were talks of possible stiff rivals before the competition. There was Peetu Piiroinen from Finland, Iouri “iPod” Podladtchikov fromm Switzerland, and Scott Lago and Louie Vito from the US. But they were all nowhere near White in the performance.

Shaun White stood out as the best with his death defying, new stunt – the Double McTwist 1260. After receiving 48.4 for the second run, White said: “I just felt like I didn’t come all the way to Vancouver not to pull out the big guns. I put down the tricks I’ve worked so hard on. It was the savvy thing to do. Saucy. Keep it weird.”

AC Milan vs Manchester United – Champions League 2010 Knockout Stage Results: Rooney Scores Double to Beat Milan

Manchester United stamped its class against AC Milan at the San Siro for a 3-2 victory. The result for this tie was amazing considering that the English side had not beaten the Italians in their last four encounters.

Ronaldinho opened the scoring for Milan and he danced the samba in celebration. It was an excellent set piece delivery from David Beckham, the player who loves and is loved by Manchester United, but is now playing on loan to Milan.

Paul Scholes leveled before half-time, though it was still a nervy game for the visitors. Then the magnificent Wayne Rooney scored two goals for United. These are his first two European goals for the season, bringing his overall goal tally to 25.

Sir Alex Ferguson hailed Rooney’s performance. The player had matured since Ronaldo left for Real Madrid.

Beckham, on the other hand, had a very good game, but Milan had missed so many chances. Clarence Seedorf contributed a late goal, an awesome backheel, that left the United goalie scratching his head. But it was not enough.

Second leg will be on March 10 at the Old Trafford. Manchester United can wrap it up, or AC Milan can pull surprises. Who knows?

2016 Olympics Goes to Rio De Janeiro

The 2016 Olympic goes to Rio de Janeiro, a first for any South American city. Brazil is the next host of the summer Olympic Games, after London in 2012, as declared by the International Olympic Committee in Copenhagen on October 2, 2009. The South American city beat out Tokyo, Samaranch-powered Madrid, and even the Obama-backed Chicago.

We all know that Brazil, a powerhouse in soccer and in many sports, deserves this one. Hosting a summer Olympic will cement one country’s reputation in sports. Of course, it is also a political thing. The President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, and his team, had years of planning and strategizing.

Chicago, an early frontrunner, had its bid backed by the former Illinois Senator and now US President Barack Obama. He was present on announcement day, yet left before announcement hour. Obviously, it didn’t do any good.

So, are you ready to go to Brazil? Dance the samba, and enjoy all the pretty stuff that nation is known for. Spare the crimes. Hopefully, the situation will improve come 2016.

Manny Pacquiao and the 2010 Elections

Who can stop Manny Pacquiao from running in the 2010 Elections? Tell us.

According to recent news, the Pacman is determined to run for public office this 2010, like he did in 2007. He then lost to the diminutive Darlene Custodio, whose family ruled the province for many years. The voters in South Cotabato think he was not yet ready. But this time, the people’s champ will once again try his luck at Congress. But who will stop him from running?

The Fans

The fans will be divided with this one. There will be those who want a hero not a politician. While there will also be others who’d think their idol can excel in everything he does. In 2007, fans criticized him for joining the dirty world of politics. He was even booed in Cebu while attending a boxing fight. Some of the fans may even launch campaigns just to dissuade their hero from running. Manny will not be swayed just because his fans says so.

The Bishop and the Church

The Marbel Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez, in an interview with Radio Veritas said “He could put up a foundation for example, scholarships, foundation for health care, foundation for a jobs, he can do that instead. He must capitalize on his stature to get some credible and competent people to manage the foundation.” Good intentions really. We really don’t know how religious Manny is but even the Cardinal would not be able to stop him from running.

The President

We all know that the President and her family are all fans of Pacquiao. I don’t think she’ll stop him. She might even use the champ to support her and her ConAss efforts.

The Boxing Opponent

Heaven forbid they’d inflict irreparable damage on our hero! It is in that way that they would surely stop him from running. But if not, win or lose, Manny will definitely run. The Miguel Cotto vs Manny Pacquiao fight may or may not happen. But we all know that Manny will fight one more time before elections.

Then who can stop Manny from running?

The Wife and the Mother

I don’t know how close the two are, but either or both Jinkee and Aling Dionisia can exert their influence over the Champ. Not a slap will do. Just some emotional persuasions and prayers to high heavens. Even tough men have soft sides when it comes to their spouses or their mothers. That is if they persuade him to forego of his political plans.

Rafael Nadal Withdraws from 2009 Wimbledon

There won’t be a rematch of last year’s finals. Rafael Nadal, the current world no.1 and Wimbledon defending champion, will not see action at the grass grand-slam tourney this year.

He has complained of his knees since his fourth-round exit against Robin Soderling at the French Open three weeks ago. “I’m just not 100%,” said Nadal during a news conference at the All England Club. “I’m better than I was a couple of weeks ago, but I just don’t feel ready.”

He was diagnosed with tendinitis in both quadriceps tendons as well as a small amount of fluid on the kneecaps “To not play Wimbledon is one of the toughest decisions of my career.” he added.

Nadal is the first reigning Wimbledon men’s champion not to defend the title since Goran Ivanisevic in 2002. His withdrawal will cause the reshuffle in the men’s draw.

The Champ’s exit will give way for Roger Federer to reclaim the title and the no. 1 spot. We all know that there is no other player out there who can outplay him. Andy Murray, on the other hand, will hope to end the British drought for this prestigious title. Hopefully he will.

To all Rafa fans out there, don’t be sad. He is still young and has to take care of his health. I think that without the Federer vs Nadal finals, it would be a walk in the park for the Swiss, or whoever beats him in the early rounds.

Anticipating the Result of the 2008 U.S. Presidential Elections

Is it going to be Sen. Barack Obama or Sen. John McCain? November 4, 2008 is fast approaching and it is not only America that is waiting for the result of the US Presidential elections. The world is watching closely.

Mc Cain vs Obama

Recent news revealed the Gen Collin Powell, a renowned Republican, endorsed Sen. Obama, the standard bearer of the Democrats. Another Republican heavyweight announced that he also intended to vote for Obama. What could be the main reason? Is it McCain’s running mate choice of Gov.Sarah Palin, the relatively unknown Governor of Alaska? Most thinks so. A poor choice of a running mate could also be an indication of poor judgment. A poor judgment will bury America deeper into the pits of economic crises.

Latest poll surveys favored Obama. Now that they are on the last week of their campaign, can the Democrats celebrate this early? Remember how Bush Jr. upset the more popular Al Gore. The old man can still pull the rags from under. But I don’t know of Palin. She might be offered a full-time job at Saturday Night Live, if the Republicans lose.

It Is About the Economy

Who has the most convincing plan of rescuing USA from further recession? It is no longer about war on terrorism and of world domination. It is about the economy. So far, the Democrats has the edge. Saving the American economy would be like saving the world. We, in Asia, are already feeling the effect of their weak economy. What if the BPOs here pull out in a month’s time? Or their investments drawn back and transferred to America? The result of the 2008 US Presidential elections is a turning point for America and the rest of the world. May the American people choose well!
